History
Our church!
I trust you will find the story of St Michael’s Parish is the story
of a people you can be part of. Your belonging is adding your story and so
making the Parish vital and enthusiastic. IT IS (you know) GOOD TO
BELONG!
Our Parish Church was opened on 1 October 1933. It was described in the
fulsome language of the day as “an ornament to the city of
Auckland…a triumph of architectural skill that rivals many of the sacred
edifices under the stars of the Southern Cross and would grace any city in
any part of the world.”
Yes, that is fulsome language, but certainly St Michael’s can be seen
from lots of places.
Driving along the southern motorway just before you
come to the Market Road turnoff, look to the left and you will see the
tower of our church (lit up at night time).
It can be seen from North
Shore's North Head, the Warehouse (Newmarket) carpark.
Walk around One Tree Hill and just before you reach the
old olive grove, again look left and you will see our Church.
There is a splendid view from the heart recovery ward of
the Mercy Hospital.
