Holy Communion
The Mass is
the Centre of Catholic life.
It expresses, celebrates and strengthens our
union with Christ and with one another. It is the focal
point of everything we believe, everything we do and everything we
hope for. In
response to the Lord's invitation at the Last Supper, "Do this in
memory of me", we gather every Lord's Day
-
To recall and be
nourished by the Lord's Word and the Lord's Supper and
-
To proclaim to the
world the "Good News" that "Christ has died, Christ is Risen,
Christ will come again".
You really and
truly belong when you receive Holy Communion. Here at St
Michael's we help parents prepare their children to receive Holy
Communion. It is part of our
Becoming Church
programme.
When children are about 8 or 9, we invite parents to a meeting and
explain what we offer. This meeting is facilitated by the
Director of Religious Education, Sister Francis Kelly.
The parents, with the help of the supporting material which is
supplied each week will take their children through the topic for
that week. On an agreed night, both parents and children
come together in the Parish Centre. The children break into
small groups and under the guidance of a catechist (teacher)
revise what has been done at home. Sister Paula or Monsignor,
sometimes both, spend time with the parents and go over the
material for the following week. It is a great time for
parents to catch up and refresh what they learned many years
before! Some
of the children go to St
Michael's School, but they too, along with other children, are
prepared through this programme. Confirmation and First
Communion are celebrated during the Easter Season. It is
always a great Parish occasion.

For details concerning the time and place of
preparation meetings, please watch the Parish Bulletin, check our
website or be in touch with
Monsignor Brian
Arahill or Sister Paula Cronin. |
