Liturgy

At the core of our Parish is our liturgy.

Therefore, St Michael's needs to gather people together to "re-member" what we are about! Jesus Christ is the centre of it all. We need to remember Him in the way He asked to be remembered. So we have LITURGY, the public worship of the Church, the summit of which is the Eucharist or the Mass. We like to think we do Liturgy well! St Michael's has a liturgy committee which looks ahead to the Church's year and critiques each season when it is over.

We have a sizeable number of trained Readers who proclaim the Sacred Scriptures. Kathryn Schollum, co-ordinates this group

It's said that "to sing is to pray twice", so we have singing at all masses. We have a number of organists and cantors who lead the music at  the Sunday Masses at St Michael's.  There is also a group of young (and "young at heart") musicians who lead the congregation at the Family Mass on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 10.00am.

We have a number of  Special Ministers of Holy Communion who assist with Holy Communion. Ruth Miller convenes these ministers.

Those who gather on Sunday are a mixture of young and not-so-young. For the younger children we provide on most Sundays a special Liturgy of the Word. They have their own Bible readings and prayers and return to the fuller assembly for the Eucharist part of the Mass. Once a month we have what we call a "Family Mass".

LENT

We are in the Church Season called Lent characterised by the priest  (usually) wearing purple vestments at Mass.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

John 10:10

God's Dream for me

Before
the world was made,
I was
in the mind of God.
God knew me.
God chose me.
God loved me.
God designed me
and desired me
just as I am.

God has a dream
for me now,
now for my life
and growth,
for my holiness
and wholeness.
No-one else
in the entire universe can fulfil
that dream of God,
except me.

To become myself,
my true self,
that is my life's work.
To grow is to change,
to be perfect
is to change often,
and
as long as I live
inner strength is possible.

To allow to shine forth
in all the world
that unique image of God that I am,
that hidden beauty
deep within my soul,
that truth which
I alone speak,
that love which
only my heart
is capable of giving.

To become myself
my true self....
my best self...
in Jesus...
open to God...
to live
to the world.
That is my vocation.
That is what I desire.
That for me is holiness.
